Volume control

Volume control allows adjustment of hearing aid amplification according to the user’s listening situation.

The volume control can be automatic or manual.

Automatic volume control

Some hearing aids are not provided with any manual volume control. In these hearing aids, the volume is adjusted automatically according to either standard settings or settings determined by the dispenser and the individual hearing aid user during fitting.

Automatic volume control is very suited to users who do not feel that they need to be able to adjust the volume themselves or to users who do not have full mobility in their hands and fingers. In the latter case, a remote control that permits volume changes may be helpful.

Manual volume control

The illustration shows two examples of manual volume controls. As you can see, the buttons are small, so some dexterity is required to manipulate them.

The manual volume control on ITE (in-the-ear) and BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aids is placed on the outer surface of the instrument.
