These “gadgets” in my ears One day I went shopping to buy something for myself. My husband was with me, and we planned to go to a café after shopping. In the store, the salesman asked me how he could help me. I said I wanted to know a little more about the thing I intended to buy. The salesman said ‘Yes’ while staring at my hearing aids with unconcealed interest.

When he returned with the merchandise he turned demonstratively towards my husband and started explaining to him how it worked. Fortunately, my husband told the salesman resolutely that I was the one buying the merchandise, not him. Whereto the salesman said that he did not think that I understood anything.

I asked the salesman why. He answered that ‘when I had these gadgets in my ears’ he did not think I would be able to understand anything.

We left the store shaking our heads and without buying anything!
