New audio shoes and slide-on system | Connecting an FM receiver securely and discreetly to a hearing aid has always been a challenge. In designing the unique new SCOLAhear system, Widex has given special attention to both appearance and reliability. The system consists of new transparent audio shoes. The shoes are provided with a discreet slide-on plug instead of the traditional Europlug. The new audio shoes ensure that the FM receiver is firmly connected to the hearing aid, which is a big advantage during, for example, sports and play activities. Widex has also developed two adaptors to make the system so universal and flexible that the SCOLA receiver can also be used with other makes of hearing aids.
The small switch on SCOLAhear allows the user to choose whether they want to receive only the direct FM signal, a combination of the FM signal along with the signal from the hearing aid microphone, or just the signal from the hearing aid. The receiver signal is processed in the hearing aid to ensure proper acoustic transparency – meaning a similar individual adjustment is applied to the sound from the FM system as for the sound from the hearing aid’s own microphone. The ratio between the signal from the FM receiver and the signal from the hearing aids can be balanced in accordance with ASHA or other recommended national guidelines, by adjusting the built-in volume control, which is located under a transparent cover. When the adjustment has been made, the cover can be replaced with a red or blue cover to ensure that the receiver is connected to the correct hearing aid.
