Hearing threshold level (HTL, Hearing Treshold)

The hearing threshold level (HTL) designates the softest sound a person can hear.

Performing the test

The hearing threshold level is determined by means of a number of pure tones (sinus tones) in the 125 Hz-8000 Hz frequency range. The test subject indicates when a tone is audible by making a sound, raising his or her hand or pushing a button.

Normal hearing threshold level

Hearing threshold levels are expressed in dB HL (Hearing Level, HL). A hearing threshold level higher than 20 dB HL is considered to indicate normal hearing.

Average hearing threshold levels for women and men with normal hearing, respectively.
