Cleaning the earmould

Here you can read about how to clean the hearing aid earmould.
It is important to keep the earmould clean. A clean and well-functioning earmould helps ensure unobstructed transmission of sound.

Therefore, the earmould must be checked regularly for wax and moisture.

Clean the earmould as follows:

1. Remove the earmould with the tube carefully from the hearing aid.

2. Rinse the earmould and tube in lukewarm running water.

3. Put the earmould and tube in a bowl of mild soapy water, or in an effervescent solution such as that used for cleaning dentures. Let it soak for 5-10 minutes so that any ear wax or dirt is loosened. Never put cotton buds, toothpicks, pipe cleaners or similar pointed objects into the earmould.

4. Rinse the earmould in lukewarm running water.

5. Dry the earmould with a soft cloth. Any moisture in the tube is best removed using a small air blower. Put the tip of the blower into the tube end and puff air until all moisture drops are blown out. If there is a vent in the earmould, blow this completely dry as well.

6. Attach the earmould with the tube to the hearing aid again.

The small plastic tube connecting the earmould with the hearing aid should always be soft and flexible. You should exchange it if it becomes stiff and yellow.
