Autogenic training

Autogenic training is a form of autosuggestion or self-hypnosis. Autogenic training helps you to achieve inner calm, so as to better be able to handle the demands and challenges of a stressful life.
Autogenic training allows you to influence the organs of the body via the autonomic nervous system, which is that part of the nervous system that works automatically with breathing, heartbeat, pulse and body temperature.

After autogenic training you will feel renewed energy and more rested. You will often feel improvements in your ability to remember and concentrate.

The more often you train, the greater the benefits are.

Elements of autogenic training

The training can comprise elements such as:

Sensations of heaviness, leading to relaxation of muscles and joints.

Sensations of warmth, leading to increased blood circulation through the body.

Sensations of warmth around the midriff, which increases the blood circulation of the organs of the abdominal cavity.

Regulation of breathing, which harmonises breathing.

Focus on heart, which harmonises heartbeat and blood circulation through the heart.

Clarity of thoughts by focusing on sensations of coolness in the forehead.

Example of autogenic training

You think of the different parts of your body, starting with your feet, then calves and shins, then thighs, the pelvis, the front and then the back of your body and so on, until you have dealt with the entire body.

While being attentive to a given body part, you imagine or tell yourself that the muscles feel heavy and warm, for example that your right leg feels heavy and warm.

When you have obtained sensations of warmth and heaviness around the body part you focus on, move your attention to another part.

You can choose to focus on the entire body in this way, or to focus on a specific part of the body.
