How to acquire hearing aids

The procedure for acquiring a hearing aid depends on the country you are in. However, there are a number of steps that are the same wherever you live.

The hearing test

In a hearing test, your hearing is evaluated and a diagnosis is made.

Choice of hearing aid

Based on your hearing, your needs and physical considerations such as the size of your ear canal, it is evaluated which hearing aid model is most suitable for your individual hearing loss. An impression is made of your ear, so that the hearing aid/earmould can be custom formed.

Hearing aid fitting

When the hearing aid/earmould is finished, the hearing aid must be fitted according to your hearing loss to provide you with the required amplification and the most comfortable sound possible. The hearing healthcare professional will then instruct you in how to use and maintain your hearing aid.

Getting used to new sounds
Getting used to a hearing aid is a learning process. The user not only has to get accustomed to having something in the ear, but also to a quite new range of sounds. It takes time to get used to hearing so many ‘new’ sounds again.
