THE INTEO CHINA CHALLENGE:
Hearing care professionals run the Great Wall Marathon
Forty-two hearing care professionals from eleven different countries participated in the Great Wall Marathon in China on 19 May 2007. The event was organised by Widex in connection with the launch of the new exclusive Inteo™ hearing aid.
The challenge started in November 2006, when the participants enrolled in a six-month training programme led by Danish athlete and former European ironman champion, Morten Fenger.
Most members of the Widex Marathon Team were first time runners, but - thanks to the determination of the team - they all successfully completed the marathon, known as one of the hardest in the world.
Promoting an active lifestyle
The idea behind the 2007 Inteo China Challenge was to promote the value of an active lifestyle – with or without hearing aids.
“For many people the decision to wear hearing aids entails overcoming a barrier. The Inteo China Challenge gives the participants a chance to experience what it is like to unleash one’s potential by challenging themselves", says Tom Westermann, Vice-president, Sales and Marketing, at Widex, Denmark.
A step for a common cause
The Great Wall Marathon in China is an opportunity for people of all ages and nationalities to run for a common cause. The Widex marathon team ran to raise awareness of hearing-related issues, so besides a fantastic experience, the runners had the chance to support a good cause.
Following the race, Widex made a donation based on the participants’ individual and collective performance during the race. The runners earned around 7500 euros for Deaflympics 2009, an event also sponsored by Widex.
