Melawai Hearing Aid Company and Widex donate digital hearing aids | On 24 July 2006, the inventor of fully digital hearing aids, Widex, donated 44 hearing aids, worth over 600 million rupiah, to hearing impaired children in Jakarta. This is the first donation in the annual Widex/Melawai donation programme, where hearing aids will be given to children with a hearing loss.
Ms. Priscilla Hadisurjo, managing director of Melawai Hearing Aid Company, explains the background for the donation programme, “Hearing loss can lead to a sense of isolation and loneliness if left untreated. For children, it additionally affects speech and language development. It is thus of utmost importance for the child to receive the sounds of everyday life - and with fully digital hearing aids, this is exactly what can be achieved.”
Touching on the advances made with this exciting technology, Mr Mads Prebensen, Area Manager, Widex, adds, “Hearing aid technology has come far in the past 10 years - today, hearing aids are like miniature computers in your ear, analysing and processing all incoming sounds to suit the individual hearing requirements of a client perfectly. With this donation - and the many to come - it is our hope that the children can grow to become valuable members of society.”
Children with an untreated hearing loss tend to perform poorly in school, because the children have difficulty keeping up with the lessons. With properly fitted hearing aids, the children are given the same opportunities as children with normal hearing.
Widex is committed to making a difference for children worldwide. Through its biennial congress of paediatric audiology, the company puts focus on the guidelines and protocols that will ensure optimal resources, services and practices for this very special group of hearing-impaired individuals.
Widex hearing aids are only available in Indonesia through the Melawai Hearing Aid Company, which is one of Indonesia’s largest retailers of hearing aids. Widex hearing aids can accommodate any hearing loss and are all individually programmed via a computer at the Melawai Hearing Aid retail outlets.
The occasion was also used to launch the world’s most advanced hearing aid - Widex Inteo - to the Indonesian market. Available in Indonesia already, the Widex Inteo represents a breakthrough in hearing aid technology and offers comfortable, yet crystal clear, sound to those with a hearing loss.
