Morten Olsen has been a coach for the team of marathon runners from all over the world since March. The team has a common goal: to help raise awareness of hearing-related issues.
“It is fantastic to see how the team members have struggled side by side at this marathon. Several of the runners have never run a marathon before – so training for the marathon has been hard work in itself. Impressively, they all completed the race, and I am happy to be in Berlin and be part of such a team achievement”, says Morten Olsen.
Morten Olsen has hearing loss himself and is ambassador of the Danish hearing aid manufacturer Widex A/S, whose headquarters are located north of Copenhagen. Widex has gathered 36 people from 16 countries and launched its own training team, Widex Marathon Team. The team consists of both hearing aid users and hearing care professionals. They have all trained very hard the last six months to get into shape to run the 42 km in Berlin this past weekend.

Tom Westermann, Vice-President, Widex Sales and Marketing, says, ”We want to inspire people with hearing loss to get the most out of life and not let themselves be restricted. The motto of the Widex Marathon Team is ”Push the Limits”, and each of the participants has fully lived up to this motto in connection with this marathon.
Morten Olsen and the 36 runners first met in the spring at a training camp at Club La Santa on Lanzarote. Besides being coached by Morten Olsen, the team has also received coaching from a group from DolphinGroup. The coaching team, including Morten Fenger, European triathlon champion, and Anders Hummel, former instructor in the Royal Danish Navy Frogman Corps, has been a strong support for the Widex Marathon Team. During the summer, they have coached the runners and prepared them for the difficult challenge in Berlin.

The story behind the team is unique and Metronome Productions were in Berlin to make a documentary about Morten Olsen and the team. Each runner has their individual story to tell, and the film helps to increase the focus on the taboo associated with hearing loss. The film gets its premiere later this year.
