EUFOS President Prof. Desiderio Passali leads new editorial project on hearing impairment in collaboration with Widex Italy

The first issue in June of a new publication is a valuable addition to existing Italian publications on hearing related topics. This new publication called “IPOACUSIA” (“hearing loss”) is made possible thanks to a Widex Italy educational grant. IPOACUSIA is a quarterly review aiming to improve information among doctors, dispensers and, above all, patients on hearing impairment and the most up-to-date hearing solutions. The agency Intermedia Press, which specialises in health issues, is managing the publishing process, while the newsletter guidelines have been provided by a high profile scientific committee presided over by Prof. Desiderio Passali (Eufos President). The scientific committee is made up of three distinguished ENT doctors, the vice-president of the Italian Association of General Medicine, the head of Widex Italy’s Audiological Department and one of the most reputed hearing aid professionals - a fine team of professionals all coming from different backgrounds who will share their know-how and experiences throughout the project.

“This newsletter”, states Prof. Passali in his first editorial, “aims to launch an educational project that will contribute to the development of a new cultural approach towards such a significant and emerging problem as hearing loss… We all share the profound awareness that to face the more and more complex demand in this field, specialists, hearing care professionals, audiologists and technical researchers should act in conjunction in order to provide patients with clear and comprehensive information based on clinical and scientific trials on the possible risks of neglecting or failing to treat hearing loss and all the existing therapeutic means at our disposal (digital hearing aids, cochlear implants etc.)".

“We acknowledge the fundamental role doctors play in our field”, underlines Mrs. Laura Giannetti, Widex Italy’s General Director, “and we intend to support dispensers in developing working relationships with the medical profession, by providing ethical and proper communication tools in order to raise awareness among doctors of the professional collaboration with dispensers and the quality of Widex digital technology. Over time, we'd like this publication to become an open forum, a meeting place for mutual discussion and a place where a selected group of doctors, dispensers, researchers and patients can give their personal contribution with articles and experiences."

The newsletter was launched during the recent S.I.O Congress held in Turin and distributed to the 1,500 specialists and doctors participating. They were highly receptive to the innovation and details of this project, asking that copies be distributed to the waiting rooms of their clinics. The newsletter IPOACUSIA will also be sent to 4,500 ENT doctors and audiologists, 500 hearing aid companies, speech rehabilitation associations and audiometricians, universities, 300 journalists, as well as institutional members of ministries, regional bureaus, ASL medical facilities and scientific organisations. The newsletter will be distributed to patients in all waiting rooms of doctors and dispensers who decide to take part in the Ipoacusia Club.
