Algeria’ s 2nd national ENT congress in Ghardaïa

The ANOL (Algerian Association of Private ENT doctors) annual congress was held on 29 and 30 April at the gates of the Sahara desert in the Mozabite city of Ghardaïa in Algeria. The congress featured a strong delegation of prestigious foreign guest speakers, including Professor Michel Toupet (Centre d'Exploration Fonctionnelles Otoneurologiques, Paris) with a talk on vertigo and Professor Hervé Lebris (Hopitaux de Paris) with a talk on facial surgery.

A special symposium entirely dedicated to the ear and hearing impairment was organised within the congress and sponsored by Widex Algérie. Among the themes that captured a great deal of attention were the two themes presented by Professor Bernard Ars, M.D., PhD, Brussels-Antwerp: “Balance of pressure variations in the middle ear” and “ Pathogenesis and therapeutic management of middle ear actelectasis”. Donalee Cromphout (Queen Fabiola Hospital, Brussels) gave a talk on “Infant screening and paediatric audiology“, which set focus on hearing impairment.

The congress was a great success. The record high attendance of more than 200 ENT doctors and hearing healthcare professionals from all over the country shows that there is a growing interest in this kind of professional gathering and in hearing impairment in particular.
